Stop Cleaning Your Roof!
We have not pressure-cleaned our roof in over three years, and it looks great! Pressure cleaning is costly, can damage your roof, and doesn't last a long time. If you don't want to spend $400 to get your roof and sidewalks pressure cleaned every 15-18 months, read on.
I've been managing residential and commercial property for many years and always disliked paying workers to climb on my roofs to pressure clean them. Not only because of the money, but also for the potential damage they can cause, breaking tile and puncturing the protective roof layer and causing leaks.
A while back, I discovered a category of product that works at a biological level to kill mildew and remove stains without pressure cleaning. Skeptical at first, I ordered some and gave it a try; wow! This stuff works!
The product I've been using is Wet and Forget. I buy the one with the long-distance spray nozzle and apply it about once a year, and the roof always looks like it's been recently cleaned. It works great on our sidewalks too! The only downside is that it is not a fast process. It may take a month or two to clear up the roof, and if yours is very dirty, I think you'll have to pressure clean it first. If you do have to use pressure, hopefully, it will be the last time!
I climb up on the roof with a long hose, but you can also apply if from the ground on one-story homes or with a ladder on two-story homes. Not everyone will be able (or want) to get on the roof to apply the product, but it works for me, and if you're inclined to save the money and feel you can do it safely, go for it.
It takes me about 40 minutes to do the roof of the 5-bedroom San Cristobal model. Here's an Amazon link to the product I buy and also a link to a YouTube video I made to fix a problem that often occurs with the sprayer. If you need help with your nozzle, reach out to me, and I'll help you.
